Searching for the mystery source of her illness
Introducing one of our star patients as of late, the brave and beautiful Lexi. Lexi was in treatment at the clinic from Monday morning to Thursday night, and we're happy to report she officially returned home to her family today!
Lexi came to us first thing Monday morning after spending a very rough night with diarrhoea and vomiting. She was very lethargic, had no appetite and couldn’t keep water down.
Lexi was incredibly brave throughout her stay. She underwent countless blood tests to rule out any toxins, poisons or spoiled food that she could have ingested, and while she didn’t show signs of major pain during any of her clinical examinations, X-rays indicated a large amount of built up gas. Her X-rays didn’t show any obvious blockages, so to ensure we investigated all possibilities our amazing team performed an exploratory surgery in hopes of finding the mystery cause. We were surprised to find no blockages, but were able to release the built-up gases, making Lexi feel MUCH better!
Post-operation Lexi only went up-hill. Within hours she showed small positive signs, lifting her head when we spoke to her and wagging her tail. Wednesday was a big step for her; she took to water and kept it down, sat up, and positively lapped up the cuddles from her very strong mum. She was also extremely responsive to our team calling "Lexxiii babbyyy!" Our nurses syringe fed Lexi up until Thursday, when she finally ate on her own!
Today is Thursday. Lexi is running in circles, giving the team kisses and back to her usual playful self. It brought a tear to our eyes to see her waddle her happy little tail out the door this afternoon with her mummy.
Both Lexi and her family have displayed a huge amount of bravery this week. We are so proud of everyone, including our wonderful team who worked tirelessly to help Lexi get back on her feet.
